From Gary... A light, a song, and an obedient heart

The Lyrics to the Song
I once was lost in sin
But Jesus took me in
And then a little light from heaven
Filled my soul

He filled my heart with love
He wrote my name above
Just a little talk with my Jesus
Gonna make it right

Have a little talk with Jesus
And tell Him all about your troubles
He'll hear our famous cry
And He will answer by and by

When you feel a little down
You have a little fire burning
Well, have a little talk with my Jesus
Gonna make it right

You may have doubts and fears
Your eyes may fill with tears
Now Jesus is a friend
Who watches day and night

Well, He wrote my name above
And He filled my soul with love
Well, just a little talk with my Jesus
Gonna make it right

Let's have little talk with Jesus
And tell Him all about our troubles
He'll hear our famous cry
He will answer by and by

Feel a little prayer wheel a-turning
You know, a little fire is a-burning
Let's have a little talk with my Jesus
Gonna make it right

Talk to Him
Talk to Him
You better talk to Him

Well, you may have doubts and fears
Your eyes may fill with tears
My Jesus is a friend
Who watches day and night

Well, He's gonna keep you safe
He's the answer to my every prayer
Just a little talk with my Jesus
Gonna make it right

Have a little talk with my Jesus
Tell Him all about our troubles
He'll hear our famous cry
And He will answer by and by

Feel a little prayer wheel a-turning
You know, a little fire is a-burning
Have a little talk with my Jesus
Gonna make it right

This morning I happened upon this picture and a memory flooded my brain.  I was taken back to 1977 and our first chapel experience at Northeast School of Biblical Studies.  I remember Billy Johnson leading this song (all three hundred pounds of him) and thinking how much I liked this song that was so new to me. Almost at the same instant, I associated this passage from the book of Acts...

Acts, Chapter 9
1 But Saul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,  2 and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.  3 As he traveled, he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him.  4 He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5  He said, “Who are you, Lord?”
The Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.   6  But rise up, and enter into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

7  The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one.  8 Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.  9 He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank.

Saul of Tarsus (later called Paul) was one zealous Jew!!! He went out of his way to persecute those who followed Jesus.  BUT, GOD had other plans for him. A light from heaven and a conversation with Jesus changed everything. The Scriptures do not say what COLOR the light was, but to my mind's eye it is as beautiful as the picture at the top of the post!!! Who knows what the world would be like if Paul had not obeyed??

Paul's life can be summarized very succinctly: Paul obeyed Jesus and fulfilled his mission.  Today, take a few moments and reflect upon your own life- is it as it should be?  And if it needs to be changed, what would it take to make it happen?  A light from heaven? A conversation with Jesus? Or something as simple as a kind word of encouragement from a friend?  I hope you don't need something traumatic to change things,  but if that does happen, I pray that it will bring you very close to GOD!!!   If you are already obedient to God, you can always come closer- who knows, you may find something in the Scriptures that will speak to your heart, just as "Just a little talk with Jesus" does to me!!!

Wishing you the best of all days---

Your Friend,

Gary
