Doing good by Gary Rose

So much has happened in the U.S.A. during the past couple of months that few people will remember the devastating fires in Australia. There was a huge loss of property and animal life and very much suffering. This simple picture of a rescue worker giving a Koala some water says volumes and it made me think of this verse from the Bible…

Mark 9 ( World English Bible )
[41]  For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my name because you are Christ’s, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.

Christians do good because they follow Christ, not because of any reward they might get. Yet, Jesus did say these words, so eventually there will be a reward for the good things we do in this life. Frankly, if ever there was a time our country needed a little good will (or perhaps “good works” might be a bit more appropriate in this context) it is now.

In fact many people are doing their best to aid others – doctors, nurses, health workers, the military and many, many others. People who do not get their picture in the paper or on TV or any notoriety whatsoever. We call them patriots or heroes, and I can’t help but wonder what Jesus calls them. Perhaps... Christians? Now is the time to step up and do the best you can in our current pandemic. A little kindness can go a long way, so share the love in your hearts; even if it something as simple as a cup (or in this case, a bottle) of water. You won’t be sorry- you will be blessed for it. And, yes, rewarded too, because Jesus said so.
