Does size really matter? by Gary Rose

Think back as far as you can; what were the first questions you asked your parents? Things like: Who am I? or why am I here? Are probably among them. Wondering who you are and what you are doing here is common to us all. Beyond these things, it is quite natural for us to look at the world around us and marvel at its size and complexity.

This picture of our solar system evokes thoughts of my place in this solar system. So, I naturally looked for Florida, but without success. How do I fit into the great scheme of things? That great king of old, David gives us the answer in the 8th Psalm.

Psalm 8 ( World English Bible )

1 For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth, who has set your glory above the heavens!

2 From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;

4 what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

5 For you have made him a little lower than God, and crowned him with glory and honor.

6 You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

7 All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

8 The birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

9 Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

We fit into this world because Yahweh (God) has made us to fit in. We have a purpose and that purpose is by the design of the creator. We may be small, but human beings have been given a monumental assignment - to take care of this world, each other and to seek HIM. The more we survey our situation, the more we will look for inner strength to accomplish our mission. If we consider who we are long enough, our thoughts will turn to the Almighty and from him receive instruction on how to live. Read your Bible and learn, for truly, it is God’s handbook for living.

Does size really matter? No, for consider diamonds; they are quite small and yet they fetch very large sums. Consider your own worth; in spite of all the things you may have done wrong in your life… God still sacrificed his one and only son for you. Somehow, the first and last verse of this Psalm mean more to me now. How about you?
