Dead end? by Gary Rose

A DEAD END: Call it a Cul de sak, impasse, or standstill- it all means the same thing, STOP, you can’t go further! I have never, ever, been to the end of a famous route like ROUTE 66, but I have seen some “ends” - grade school, high school, college, boyhood, career, etc..

Things end, its just part of life. When you experience this, you just move forward and become something else. But, and I do mean BUT- you have to face the consequences of your past actions. Face it, there WILL be a PAYDAY, someday. It may be a GOOD PAYDAY, or NOT- that depends on what you have done. Led a sinful life; you will pay for it. If you have chosen God and lived the life that the Almighty wants, heaven.

The apostle Paul puts it this way….

Ephesians 2 (World English Bible)
1 You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins,  2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience;  3 among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.  4 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us,  5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),  6 and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,  7 that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus;  8 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  9 not of works, that no one would boast(emphasis added) 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.

The end of the road you’re on doesn’t have to end going nowhere. Choose God and his will for your life and whatever happens, ultimately you will go up (and I do mean HEAVEN).

The choice you make will have eternal consequences.

(World English Bible)

Job 24-26

Job 24:1 "Why aren't times laid up by the Almighty? Why don't those who know him see his days?
Job 24:2 There are people who remove the landmarks. They violently take away flocks, and feed them.
Job 24:3 They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, and they take the widow's ox for a pledge.
Job 24:4 They turn the needy out of the way. The poor of the earth all hide themselves.
Job 24:5 Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert, they go forth to their work, seeking diligently for food. The wilderness yields them bread for their children.
Job 24:6 They cut their provender in the field. They glean the vineyard of the wicked.
Job 24:7 They lie all night naked without clothing, and have no covering in the cold.
Job 24:8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
Job 24:9 There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor,
Job 24:10 So that they go around naked without clothing. Being hungry, they carry the sheaves.
Job 24:11 They make oil within the walls of these men. They tread wine presses, and suffer thirst.
Job 24:12 From out of the populous city, men groan. The soul of the wounded cries out, yet God doesn't regard the folly.
Job 24:13 "These are of those who rebel against the light. They don't know its ways, nor abide in its paths.
Job 24:14 The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. In the night he is like a thief.
Job 24:15 The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, 'No eye shall see me.' He disguises his face.
Job 24:16 In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They don't know the light.
Job 24:17 For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness, for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.
Job 24:18 "They are foam on the surface of the waters. Their portion is cursed in the earth. They don't turn into the way of the vineyards.
Job 24:19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters, so does Sheol those who have sinned.
Job 24:20 The womb shall forget him. The worm shall feed sweetly on him. He shall be no more remembered. Unrighteousness shall be broken as a tree.
Job 24:21 He devours the barren who don't bear. He shows no kindness to the widow.
Job 24:22 Yet God preserves the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.
Job 24:23 God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways.
Job 24:24 They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone. Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others, and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.
Job 24:25 If it isn't so now, who will prove me a liar, and make my speech worth nothing?"

Job 25:1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
Job 25:2 "Dominion and fear are with him. He makes peace in his high places.
Job 25:3 Can his armies be counted? On whom does his light not arise?
Job 25:4 How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean?
Job 25:5 Behold, even the moon has no brightness, and the stars are not pure in his sight;
Job 25:6 How much less man, who is a worm, the son of man, who is a worm!"

Job 26:1 Then Job answered,
Job 26:2 "How have you helped him who is without power! How have you saved the arm that has no strength!
Job 26:3 How have you counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge!
Job 26:4 To whom have you uttered words? Whose spirit came forth from you?
Job 26:5 "Those who are deceased tremble, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
Job 26:6 Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
Job 26:7 He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing.
Job 26:8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not burst under them.
Job 26:9 He encloses the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it.
Job 26:10 He has described a boundary on the surface of the waters, and to the confines of light and darkness.
Job 26:11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his rebuke.
Job 26:12 He stirs up the sea with his power, and by his understanding he strikes through Rahab.
Job 26:13 By his Spirit the heavens are garnished. His hand has pierced the swift serpent.
Job 26:14 Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?"

Job 27-29

Job 27:1 Job again took up his parable, and said,
Job 27:2 "As God lives, who has taken away my right, the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter.
Job 27:3 (For the length of my life is still in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils);
Job 27:4 surely my lips shall not speak unrighteousness, neither shall my tongue utter deceit.
Job 27:5 Far be it from me that I should justify you. Until I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
Job 27:6 I hold fast to my righteousness, and will not let it go. My heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
Job 27:7 "Let my enemy be as the wicked. Let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous.
Job 27:8 For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Job 27:9 Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him?
Job 27:10 Will he delight himself in the Almighty, and call on God at all times?
Job 27:11 I will teach you about the hand of God. That which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.
Job 27:12 Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?
Job 27:13 "This is the portion of a wicked man with God, the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from the Almighty.
Job 27:14 If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
Job 27:15 Those who remain of him shall be buried in death. His widows shall make no lamentation.
Job 27:16 Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay;
Job 27:17 he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
Job 27:18 He builds his house as the moth, as a booth which the watchman makes.
Job 27:19 He lies down rich, but he shall not do so again. He opens his eyes, and he is not.
Job 27:20 Terrors overtake him like waters. A storm steals him away in the night.
Job 27:21 The east wind carries him away, and he departs. It sweeps him out of his place.
Job 27:22 For it hurls at him, and does not spare, as he flees away from his hand.
Job 27:23 Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

Job 28:1 "Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.
Job 28:2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.
Job 28:3 Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.
Job 28:4 He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.
Job 28:5 As for the earth, out of it comes bread; Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
Job 28:6 Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.
Job 28:7 That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon's eye seen it.
Job 28:8 The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.
Job 28:9 He puts forth his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.
Job 28:10 He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.
Job 28:11 He binds the streams that they don't trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings forth to light.
Job 28:12 "But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?
Job 28:13 Man doesn't know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living.
Job 28:14 The deep says, 'It isn't in me.' The sea says, 'It isn't with me.'
Job 28:15 It can't be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price.
Job 28:16 It can't be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
Job 28:17 Gold and glass can't equal it, neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
Job 28:18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
Job 28:19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
Job 28:20 Whence then comes wisdom? Where is the place of understanding?
Job 28:21 Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.
Job 28:22 Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.'
Job 28:23 "God understands its way, and he knows its place.
Job 28:24 For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.
Job 28:25 He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.
Job 28:26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder;
Job 28:27 then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.
Job 28:28 To man he said, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.' "

Job 29:1 Job again took up his parable, and said,
Job 29:2 "Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
Job 29:3 when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
Job 29:4 as I was in the ripeness of my days, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
Job 29:5 when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,
Job 29:6 when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
Job 29:7 when I went forth to the city gate, when I prepared my seat in the street.
Job 29:8 The young men saw me and hid themselves. The aged rose up and stood.
Job 29:9 The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
Job 29:10 The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.
Job 29:11 For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it commended me:
Job 29:12 Because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had none to help him,
Job 29:13 the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
Job 29:14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.
Job 29:15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.
Job 29:16 I was a father to the needy. The cause of him who I didn't know, I searched out.
Job 29:17 I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.
Job 29:18 Then I said, 'I shall die in my own house, I shall number my days as the sand.
Job 29:19 My root is spread out to the waters. The dew lies all night on my branch.
Job 29:20 My glory is fresh in me. My bow is renewed in my hand.'
Job 29:21 "Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
Job 29:22 After my words they didn't speak again. My speech fell on them.
Job 29:23 They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.
Job 29:24 I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn't reject the light of my face.
Job 29:25 I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, as one who comforts the mourners.

Romans 3

Rom 3:1 Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the profit of circumcision?
Rom 3:2 Much in every way! Because first of all, they were entrusted with the oracles of God.
Rom 3:3 For what if some were without faith? Will their lack of faith nullify the faithfulness of God?
Rom 3:4 May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, "That you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment."
Rom 3:5 But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak like men do.
Rom 3:6 May it never be! For then how will God judge the world?
Rom 3:7 For if the truth of God through my lie abounded to his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?
Rom 3:8 Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil, that good may come?" Those who say so are justly condemned.
Rom 3:9 What then? Are we better than they? No, in no way. For we previously warned both Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin.
Rom 3:10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one.
Rom 3:11 There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks after God.
Rom 3:12 They have all turned aside. They have together become unprofitable. There is no one who does good, no, not, so much as one."
Rom 3:13 "Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit." "The poison of vipers is under their lips;"
Rom 3:14 "Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."
Rom 3:15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood.
Rom 3:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways.
Rom 3:17 The way of peace, they haven't known."
Rom 3:18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Rom 3:19 Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.
Rom 3:20 Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
Rom 3:21 But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the law and the prophets;
Rom 3:22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction,
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;
Rom 3:25 whom God set forth to be an atoning sacrifice, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God's forbearance;
Rom 3:26 to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.
Rom 3:27 Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what manner of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
Rom 3:28 We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
Rom 3:29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Isn't he the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,
Rom 3:30 since indeed there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.
Rom 3:31 Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! No, we establish the law.

Aug. 23
Romans 4

Rom 4:1 What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh?
Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.
Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."
Rom 4:4 Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as debt.
Rom 4:5 But to him who doesn't work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.
Rom 4:6 Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works,
Rom 4:7 "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin.
Rom 4:9 Is this blessing then pronounced on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.
Rom 4:10 How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
Rom 4:11 He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be accounted to them.
Rom 4:12 The father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.
Rom 4:13 For the promise to Abraham and to his seed that he should be heir of the world wasn't through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Rom 4:14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect.
Rom 4:15 For the law works wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.
Rom 4:16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
Rom 4:17 As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.
Rom 4:18 Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, "So will your seed be."
Rom 4:19 Without being weakened in faith, he didn't consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.
Rom 4:20 Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn't waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God,
Rom 4:21 and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Rom 4:22 Therefore it also was "reckoned to him for righteousness."
Rom 4:23 Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone,
Rom 4:24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus, our Lord, from the dead,
Rom 4:25 who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.

ROMANS by Paul Southern

http://www.oldpaths.com/Archive/Southern/Paul/1901/rom.html

ROMANS

  1. THE TITLE
  2. This book bears the title "Romans" because it is addressed "to all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints" (Romans 1:7).
  3. THE WRITER
  4. This book was written by Paul (Romans 1:1). Tertius was his stenographer (Romans 16:22). Little is known of Paul's family. His father was of the tribe of Benjamin (Philippians 3:5), and a Pharisee (Acts 23:6). In Acts 23:16 reference is made to Paul's sister and her son in Jerusalem. The New Testament nowhere mentions Paul's mother. He was a native of Tarsus in Cilicia, but was educated in Jerusalem under the great teacher Gamaliel (Acts23:3). The date of Paul's birth is unknown, but it is thought that he was a little younger than the Lord. Our first introduction to him in the New Testament is in Acts 7:58, where he was encouraging the stoning of Stephen. In Acts 9 (also 22 and 26) we read of his conversion. From this point on the book of Acts is filled with his activities. He probably died a martyr at Rome (II Timothy 4:7,8).
  5. TIME AND PLACE OF WRITING
  6. Scholars generally agree that the book was written from Corinth about A.D. 58 during Paul's second visit in Greece (Acts 20:1-3; Romans 1:11,13,15: 15:23-33; 16:1,2,21,23; Acts 19:21,22; 24:17). It is thought that I and II Thessalonians, Galatians, I and II Corinthians preceded Romans in time. Romans probably comes first in order among the letters in the New Testament because of its theological importance. As with all New Testament scriptures, the contents are of far greater importance than time and place of writing.
  7. TO WHOM WRITTEN
  8. The book was written to the saints at Rome (Romans 1:7) where there were several congregations (Romans 16:5,15). Their origin is obscure. Some of those present on Pentecost could have carried the gospel back to Rome (Acts 2:10). When the Jerusalem church was scattered following the death of Stephen, some disciples could have gone to Rome (Acts 8:4; 11:19). The membership in Rome included both Jews and Gentiles (Romans 1:6-15; 7:1).
  9. OCCASION OF THE LETTER
  10. Paul had long cherished a desire to go to Rome (Acts 19:21). According to Romans 15:24-33, he soon hoped to go. Perhaps he wanted them to know of his teaching before his arrival. With a burning thirst for souls, he probably felt that the great city of Rome would be a fruitful field of labor. Furthermore, he had just written Galatians, stressing the human side of redemption. Romans stresses the divine side. The purpose of the letter was to present a systematic exposition of the gospel, and to justify Paul's mission to the Gentiles. Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, probably carried the letter to Rome (Romans 16:1,2).
  11. THE THEME
  12. The gospel "is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16,17).
  13. ARGUMENTS PRESENTED

    1. Jews and Gentiles alike are guilty before God.
    2. Therefore all men need a Savior.
    3. Christ died for all men.
    4. All can be saved through faithful obedience to Christ.

  14. EXERCISES FOR STUDENT ACTIVITY

    1. Study the Epistle to the Romans in the light of the following analysis:
      1. Following a personal introduction, Paul states the fundamental thesis (1:1-17).
      2. All men, both Jews and Greeks, are under condemnation and need God's righteousness (1:18-3:20).
      3. Righteousness is not achieved by keeping the Law but by complete trust in Christ (3:21-4:25).
      4. God's grace through Christ is sufficient to save (Chs. 5-8).
      5. The rejection of Israel is explained in its relation to God's purpose (Chs. 9-11).
      6. In view of God's grace a Christian is obligated to live a life of practical devotion (12:1-15:13).
      7. In the concluding section Paul presents a number of personal matters and bids them farewell with some timely warnings (15:14-16:27).
    2. What is the relation between the Old and the New Covenants?
    3. What does the Epistle to the Romans teach concerning sin?
    4. Discuss the similarities and contracts between Adam and Christ.
    5. With Romans 12:1-15:13 as a source, write a paper on "The Practical Duties of a Christian."
    6. Study the meanings of the following key words as they are used in Romans: sin, power, righteousness, justification, atonement, redemption, adoption, propitiation, predestination, election.

Making God Centre by Jim McGuiggan

https://web.archive.org/web/20160424094549/http://jimmcguiggan.com/beginners2.asp?id=26

Making God Centre

It doesn't make a lot of sense to say, "If I were to do it all again I would" (this or that) because I would be speaking from my present experience--something I wouldn't have if I were truly beginning again. But I think you know what I mean. If I were to begin my life as a Christian again I would make the centre of it a Person--God himself.
That's not as simple as it sounds though I'm sure it's the right thing to do. Strange as it might sound, the centre of the Bible is not the Bible but the God of the Bible. The central subject in the Bible is God himself. It isn't all the interesting people and events and stories we read in the Bible. It isn't even the purpose of God that takes the central place in scriptureno, the centre is the God who has a purpose. The heart of the Bible is a Person!
Of course we can't get to know the God of the Bible without learning "things about him" but it's definitely the God of the Hebrew--Christian scriptures that we want to get to know. The word "God" means so many things in the world today but it's "the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" we want and we won't settle for some other.
To make God, who is "personal," the centre is not only what he calls us to do, it is absolutely essential to our self-understanding and growth as humans. We can't pray to "the force" or "the stars" or "the ground of being". We can't "worship" creation itself (however much we love trees and the lovely things of nature) and we desperately need to believe in someone higher than ourselves. "Worshipping" health, fitness, education, intellect, acclaim, beauty, wealth or power isn't enough for us.
For all kinds of reasons the poet was right:
"When earth's lights are fading and stricken men call
To say less than 'God' is to say nothing at all
Life's ultimate hour calls for ultimate power
Only God's enough."
So If I were beginning again I'd focus on God himself.

It’s Not About Us, it is About HIM by Alfred Shannon Jr.

https://biblicalproof.wordpress.com/2011/05/page/2/

Christianity is not about being narcissistic. It is not all about me, me, me. It is all about Him, Him, Him. It is not about me being right, but proving, teaching, and obeying that which is right. God’s Word is right whether we are, or not. If we do wrong, we will be punished accordingly. However, God’s Word, no matter how irresponsibly used, is perfect and will endure forever. Let us keep focused on Jesus, the author and finisher of our Faith.
Heb 12:2; 1 Pet 1:23-25; Isa 40:8; Ps 33:4; Ps 12:6; Prov 30:5; Lk 22:42; Jn 6:38; Heb 10:7,9

Giving Thanks is Good for You

Thanksgiving 2012
Introduction:
One of my most favorite Psalms is Psalm 139, where David talks about how awesome God is.  He acknowledges how well God really knows us, He knows us even better or more than we know ourselves. David writes:
“For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that my frame was not hid from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.”
And he acknowledges that there is no place we can hide from Him.
As I thought about this, I could not help but think about how God gave us an amazing body that is capable of so much. He not only gave us a unique physical body, He also placed within that body our true essence, our spiritual body or soul. He also gave us creative powers, the ability to reason and do many physical things. He blessed us with a complex array of emotions which can triggers even more feelings which effect our attitudes, perception and even the actions we take. We are fearfully and wonderfully made!
We are capable of so many different feeling like fear, sadness, trust, anger, surprise, love, joy, pride, disgust, sympathy, shame and so much more.  I believe God gave us these emotions for a number of good reasons. Fear puts us on the alert and helps us to become more cautious. Love brings out the nurturing part of us.  Trust enables us to feel secure in certain situations and with certain people, and so on…
I believe one of the greatest emotions that God has given us is the feeling of gratitude.
And why do I think this? Because when we feel thankful and have an attitude of gratitude, it triggers other positive emotions and feelings; like the  feeling of being satisfied, happy, full of joyful and even at peace no matter what our specific circumstance may be.  Having an attitudes of gratitude and thanksgiving are so very important if we hope to have or maintain a healthy, positive, peaceful outlook on life.
But the kind of attitude we have many times depends on how we view things, or see things from our own perspective. For example:
●You may just look at this day just like any other day, but if you woke up this morning with more health than illness…you are more blessed than the 11 million who will not survive this week and die.
●You may just think it’s just another ho-hum day at work… but if you have never experienced the danger of war, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation…you are far better off than the 500 million people in the world who have that to look forward to for that day..
● Sometimes you may feel like it such an inconvenience to have to get up or out to go to church on Sunday when you could be doing so many other things. But statistics show that if you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death…you are more blessed than three billion people in the world who cannot do the very thing we take for granted..
● You may be bored with eating the same old things or wearing the same old clothes, or you may even be tired of your home. But in reality if you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep…you are richer than over 5 billion or 75% of this world’s population.
● If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace…you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthiest people. You see it all about perspective. More than 90 % of 7+ billion people living on this planet would love to have what you have and be where you are today.
As we begin this Thanksgiving week it’s good to think about how blessed we really are, not only because of how much we have, but also because if you learn to develop and maintain an attitude of gratitude you are going to be happier and more at peace than those who aren’t grateful and are never satisfied with what they have.
While feeding his cows, a farmer was thinking about a sermon he heard on Isaiah 1:2-3 which says, “Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth! This is what the Lord says: “The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me. Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care—but Israel doesn’t know its master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.”
As he thought about this verse, one of his cows which was evidently grateful for its food and his care began to lick the farmers bare arm. Instantly the Holy Spirit flashed conviction in the farmer’s mind. He got a little choked up and a tear came to his eye as he said, “Yes it is true. How wonderful God’s word is.  The poor dumb brute is really more grateful to me than I am to God, and yet I am in debt to Him for everything.”  The lesson had found its way into his heart and lead him to repent.
God provides us with more blessings than we can count. God not only gave us life, He has given us so much more. Read Ephesians 1:3-14  (Click on verse to read)
Just from this one text do you see how much God has blessed us? It says…
● He has not only blessed us here in the physical realm, He has also blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
● In love, He predestined us to be adopted as his sons and daughters through Jesus Christ.  Why?
● Because it please Him to do so. (He wanted to have children who love Him)
● He has also gave something very precious to us, He redeemed us through the blood of His one and only Son, He provided forgiveness of sins.
● He has also made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ.
● And those who believe, this text says you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession
He did not have to do any of this, but he wanted to. He is our Father. We need to remember to thank God for ALL of his blessings. As I was going through the Bible this past week I came to the realization that one of the most thankful men in all the Bible, one who expressed it over and over and recommended that we do the same is the man we know as the Apostle Paul. Maybe it was because he experienced the grace of God first hand when forgiven for persecuting the church. Listen to what he writes to the early Christians:
● Colossians 2:6-7 “ So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him,rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
●  Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
●  1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  Could he be any clearer than that?
●  Philippians 4:6-7  “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Notice how tis text says that enjoying this kind of peace is conditional; it comes by praying and giving Thanks.
There is more but I am sure you get the idea. We are a blessed people, and as Christians we I challenge you to become even more grateful and the most thankful people of all. In doing so God promises to bless us with a healthy frame of mind, and peace that goes beyond understanding.
