HEADSHIP
OF THE HUSBAND
Eph.
5:22-24 The
husband is the head of the wife.
GOD'S
DESIGN FOR ORDER IN MARRIAGE.
In
no
organization can everyone be "in charge" - otherwise
disorder
results
GOD'S
"PECKING ORDER" IN LIFE.
1
Cor. 11:3 "But
I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of
woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."
Eph.
5:23 HUSBAND
IS THE HEAD OF HIS WIFE..... Not
"the BOSS"
(someone
once said, "Give a man an inch, and suddenly he thinks he's a
ruler")
JESUS'
APOSTLES CONFUSED POWER
WITH AUTHORITY
Mt.
20:20-28 A desire for authority in order to RULE
- or to SERVE?
1
Pet. 5:1-4 Elders are to LEAD
as servants - not LORDS
over the flock.
SOME
HUSBANDS THINK OF A WIFE AS THEIR SERVANT.
vs.
28 ...as Christ came to SERVE
- not to BE
SERVED.
.....AS
CHRIST IS HEAD OF THE CHURCH. (Eph.
5:23)
PART
OF THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HEADSHIP IS TO LOVE
OUR WIFE.
Eph.
5:25-29 Love of Christ involved "sanctifying"
and "purifying" as
a husband "nourishes"
and "cherishes"
SOME
YOUNG HUSBANDS SAY, "I DO THAT. I
EARN A LIVING."
1
Tim. 5:8 "But
if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of
his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
HUSBAND
TO PROVIDE FOR PHYSICAL NEEDS - TRUE, BUT WHAT
ABOUT SPIRITUAL
NEEDS?
As
Christ would "present to Himself a glorious church, not having
spot or wrinkle
or any such thing, but that it should be holy
and without blemish."
SO
HUSBANDS SHOULD LEAD THEIR WIVES IN SPIRITUAL PURITY.
2
Tim. 2:15 "Be
diligent (study, kvv) to present yourself approved to God, a worker
who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth."
ALL,
BOTH MEN & WOMEN, HAVE THIS PRIVILEGE & RESPONSIBILITY
But
the husband has a responsibility to lead his family in spiritual
matters.
This
does not make the husband the mediator between his wife & God
1
Tim. 2:5 "For
there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man
Christ Jesus."
Paul
alludes to this responsibility of husbands in his letter to Corinth:
1
Cor. 14:34-35 "Let
your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not
permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the
law also says.
[35]
and if they want to learn anything, let
them ask their own husbands
at home;
for it is shameful for women to speak in church."
THE
HUSBAND IS TO BE THE HEAD OF HIS FAMILY & LEAD HIS FAMILY AS
THE SPIRITUAL
LEADER
IN THE HOME.
FOR
MEN TO BECOME ELDERS & DEACONS, THEY MUST LEARN TO BE
SPIRITUAL
LEADERS
IN THEIR HOMES.
1
Tim. 3:4-5, 12 "...one
who rules his own house well...
