Lately the news on television has been depressing. There seems to be no end to the controversy in Washington. The endless effort to impeach our president, the flood of illegal aliens, the push by the Democratic party towards Socialism (which ultimately leads to Communism) and the effort by many to take away our second amendment right to bear arms is becoming harder and harder to even hear. So, sometimes I don’t even watch the evening news.
And, as I sat down to write today’s blog, I said to myself: Gary, focus on something positive, something worthwhile. The answer came to me in the form of a picture that I happened upon this morning and a verse from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. The Bible says...
Philippians 4 ( World English Bible )
Phi 4:8, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. (emphasis added)
In a world filled with ungodly things, Paul instructs us to think on worthwhile things. Personally, I intend to focus on things like this lovely picture today, just to break the cycle of endless turmoil. I will watch the evening news tomorrow.
PS. Loveliness is just one of the things worth considering; so, take another look at this verse and think about them all – one by one.
