It has been almost 55 years since I was introduced to Algebra and fortunately, I still remember enough of it to determine the “speed limit”. But, this sign really isn’t about “speed” is it? Instead of just plainly listing a number, they want you to do math instead. Why? To trick you, of course. Unfortunately, people do things like this and people who are very smart, do things like this a lot (at least some of them do). Jesus encountered smart people as well and they tried to trick him….
Matthew 22 ( World English Bible )
Mat 22:34, But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
Mat 22:35, One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.
Mat 22:36, ”Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”
Mat 22:37, Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
Mat 22:38, This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39, A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Mat 22:40, The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
Jesus’ answer to the lawyer’s was a message of love. If you really love, you will do right before God and men, period. Love is not often the easy way to live, but it is the right way. Don’t be fooled by people who want to control you by incorrectly using the Scriptures. Rather, as Jesus said in John 7:24 (WEB) Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”
By the way… that speed limit is 45.
