A Norse chair of judgment. Intimidating, isn’t it. These stylized wolves are as ferocious as they come. Frankly, I was taken aback when I first saw this, as those wolves left an impression that stayed with me for days. Imagine being prostrate before this throne and realizing that your fate was in the hands of someone who wanted to convey such an image. There is only one word for this situation – TERROR! And such is the pagan view of justice.
Christianity has a different concept of dispensing ultimate judgment and the following passage from the book of Revelation tells the tale very plainly. Read on (if you dare).
Revelation 20 ( World English Bible )
11 I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them. 12 I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 If anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.
Throughout our lives we have been judged. Parents, teachers, relatives, and society in general all have made an evaluation of who we are and what we have done. But, no one has ever made a judgment based on all the facts of our lives, because no human being has ever known everything; every thought, every intent, every action we have ever had. But at the final judgment, everything will be revealed and before the great white throne of God it will be too late to change your fate. God will make a determination that will result in either eternal bliss or burning hell-fire. The most scary part of all this is that you won’t even be able to complain, because God’s assessment will be fair, through and final.
The good news is that if you are a Christian, Jesus Christ will be your advocate and you will have heaven to look forward to. Without Christ, hell awaits. Do yourself a favor, save yourself an eternity of pain and become a loyal follower of Jesus. Don’t wait, do it now; Judgment awaits and no one knows the exact time and date of your last breath. Come to Christ now; don’t face judgment alone!
